Checklist - What To Do On Moving Day
Before You Leave Your Current Home:
Remove bedding and disassemble your beds (wherever possible).
If you rented your own van, leave early in the morning to collect it as soon as possible.
If using a removal firm in Nottingham, guide them through the property and explain any specific requirements you may have about packing, loading, or unloading at the other end.
Once the removal vehicle has been loaded, walk through the empty property to check that nothing has been left behind, ensuring all doors and windows are locked.
Provide your new contact information for the new residents to forward any of your mail.
Take last-minute gas and electricity meter readings to protect yourself from any utility payment disputes in the future (particularly important if you’re moving to / from rented accommodation).
Confirm the removal firm has the correct address of your new home and is made aware of any traffic diversions, parking or loading implications at the new premises that you know of.
When You Arrive At Your New Home:
Ensure all utilities are switched on and working –water, gas, and electricity.
Record and photograph meter readings at your new place.
Ensure you have all the necessary keys for doors and windows, as well as garage buildings / sheds.
Before unpacking, perform an inspection and record / photograph any damages to flooring and any other surfaces.
Clean the kitchen and vacuum as required.
Show the movers where to place boxes and important furniture if not marked / obvious.
Assemble beds and bedding.
Unpack essentials first (such as pots and pans and tea making facilities).
Reassemble larger furniture items.
Begin unpacking clothes and other belongings. Back To List
