Picking The Best Removals Company In Nottingham
Moving to a new house or relocating to a different office is always a daunting task. It’s important that you choose the right removals company the first time round, one that will meet all your requirements at a fair and affordable price. The last thing you need is an unreliable service with hidden costs and unprofessional staff that charge you over the odds for the removal in question.
Time and time again, we hear countless horror stories from new and prospective customers about the unprofessional service they have previously received from other companies and so called “removal experts”. Taking this into consideration, we would like to provide the following steps on approaching a removal company for a quote.
Step One – Assess The Size Of Your Removal
Take a note of the size of our current property and the new property you are moving to. If moving further afield, calculate the estimated travel time between properties to establish a better understanding of the work required during the move. List the number of beds, wardrobes, furniture items and estimate the number of boxes you will need transporting.
Do you require boxes and / or additional materials? Do you plan on packing your belongings yourself? These should all be considered before approaching any removal firm to ensure you receive a genuine, “like-for-like” quote from multiple companies for your consideration.
Step Two – Write Down Your Requirements In Email
Once you have completed the first step, you should put your requirements and important information about the move in writing. Although it’s tempting to just call a few removal firms and ask for a rough price, the potential for communication mishaps is always prevalent.
Clearly stating the specifics of your move via email reduces the amount of guesswork for the removal company and heightens the chances of receiving an accurate price from the outset.
You can also state that you are seeking multiple quotes at the end of your email. This will demonstrate which companies check their emails regularly and respond to enquiries promptly, allowing you to get a feel for how they run their business!
Step Three – Request Quotes From At Least 3 Removal Companies
Once you’re happy with the email, send your requirements to at least three different removal companies. Ensure their trading address is located in the same town you are moving from (or at least, moving to) avoiding “national companies” that may just “farm your removal out” to subcontractors with varying degrees of success.
If you find a removal company you like the look of in a business directory or an online listing, make sure they also have a website which is modern, kept up-to-date and that looks professional.
Always check for social media accounts registered to the company (particularly Facebook) as these are a great indicator about the actual service they provide as a business. If their previous customers are happy or unhappy, they will often broadcast their experiences on the company’s social media platform either way.
Check for Google Reviews and Trustpiot reviews, as these platforms are harder to influence with “fake” or inaccurate reviews from third parties.
Step Four – Request A Visit From An Assessor
In a perfect scenario, all the removal companies should respond to your email in writing or at very least, over the phone. Those that proactively follow-up with you should be added to the top of your list moving forward. If you haven’t heard anything from some of the companies you initially liked, call them to chase the email you sent them and see how they respond directly.
Once you have heard from at least 3 different companies, request a site / home visit from their Assessor. The Removals Assessor(s) should arrive promptly and conduct themselves in a professional manner. This is your chance to gauge the business, asking as many questions as you can about the proposed move, the processes the company employs and any special measures they take to ensure a smooth and stress-free service.
Assuming you are happy with the Assessor, a fully written quote should be provided on the day, or shortly afterwards for your consideration. Never feel pressured into agreeing anything during the assessment and make it clear to the Assessor that you are seeking multiple quotes from multiple firms.
Step Five – Negotiate!
Assuming you receive multiple quotes from multiple firms, now is your chance to negotiate a little. Although it’s often tempting to just make your decision on price alone, it’s always worth contacting the more expensive companies who may have slightly better reviews and an online reputation and see if they can match a genuine quote you have received elsewhere.
